In the last week I finally painted something both cute and cool from my pile of shame: Dutchmoguls Ratfolk miniatures from Illgottengames.
If you are a regular visitor of this blog, you already know how I paint most of my miniatures: Using the slapchop technique. Just basecoat the miniature black. Give it a drybrush with light grey and a soft drybrush with white. Add Speedpaints as the base colours and put some highlights here and there using regular acrylic colours. Quick and easy!
On Dutchmoguls Thingiverse I found a short fluff text about those Ratfolk:
*Ages ago, the mighty Wright Priests of the Clan of the Dawningforge exiled their people to the low hills of the Outer Realms and sealed themselves to die within their emptied holds. In the untold time since, the rats dwelling in that hollow space and the caverns beneath were changed, growing in size and intellect as they bathed in the magical energies emanating from the divine artifact known as the Netherforge. Now, as the dwarves return to reclaim their home and unravel the mystery of their banishment, they have found it occupied, the relics of their once magnificent civilization in the hands of unwelcome inheritors….*
After a bit of research I found out that these miniatures from Thingiverse are also part of a larger playset called “Beyond the Copper Doors“. This is a so-called adventure module and it comes with PDFs for D&D 5E, 1E(OSRIC), and their own CRUX roleplaying rules. Awesome!
Vanilla D&D lacks rules for Ratfolk as far as I know – at least I didnt find any creatures in the common 5E books. In the Tome of Beasts by Kobold Press you can find a Ratfolk creature though.
I really dont know how legal it is to set up an online compendium with all the monsters and creatures from all the books out there but the 5ECompendium on Github does exactly this, which gives you a searchable archive. And there you are able to find this entry:
Thats enough digging in the rabbit rat hole for today. 😉
If you are from Germany and you need those Ratfolk miniatures for your pen&paper RPG or your tabletop army, too – get them here!
Happy gaming! 🙂
